In this month’s edition, we are featuring an incredible cast of dancers. Prepare yourselves for special workshops from Tito Ortos & Tamara Livolsi as well as Michelle Morales.

Ortos J. Gutiérrez Ortiz, better known as TITO ORTOS, was born in Santurce on December 26, 1974. After finishing a Bachelor’s Degree in Natural Science from the University of Puerto Rico and studying music, vocals, bass and clarinet, Tito started his career as a Salsa Dancer at the encouragement of his parents both of whom were musicians. He has recorded with his father (under “De Menor a Mayor Orchestra”) as one of the singers, three music albums.

He also developed as a dancer in other genres such as: Jazz, Merengue, “Bomba y Plena”, Rumba, Modern Dance and Tap among others. Since then, he has visited more than 100 cities worldwide giving performances and classes with his wife and dance partner Tamara Livolsi. They both participate yearly in congresses around the world and work as judges for the Salsa Open, the World Salsa Championships, the World Latin Dance Cup and the World Salsa Summit. Produced the Puerto Rico Hustle and Salsa Festival, coordinated San Juan es Salsa competition, Bayamón Ciudad Salsera competition and they are part of the organization of the Puerto Rico Salsa Congress.
TAMARA LIVOLSI, was born in Argentina on February 24, 1978, but was raised in Puerto Rico. She inherited the art of dancing from her mother and has more than 20 years experience in many forms of dance including, jazz, ballet, and hip hop she is a versatile dancer and internationally respected performer and instructor. She has worked with recognized artists like: Luis Fonsi, David Bisbal, Manny Manuel, Ednita Nazario , and Yuri y Wilkins.

Both Tito and Tamara have participated in various television commercials, dance videos and movies including, “Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights”, Yellow, El Cantante: Hector Lavoe, and American Gangster (Denzel Washington), as dancers. In addition they own and operate (with Danny Lugo, choreographer) Rhythms Dance Studio.
Today, Tito is not only a Salsa Dancer, he also is the Director of the San Juan City Salsa Dance Program and has choreographed routines for many artists including Víctor Manuelle, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Michael Stuart, El Gran Combo, Richie Rey y Bobby Cruz, Domingo Quiñones, Ismael Miranda, Elvis Crespo, Cheo Feliciano, Modesto Cepeda, Andy Montañez y Tego Calderón. He was also the choreographer for the “Bomba” and “Cha-Cha-Cha” routine in Ricky Martin’s appearance in Miss Universe 2001 and the Celia Cruz “Azúcar” Special in Miami in 2003. As a jazz dancer he has performed with Melina León, Yaire, Elvis Crespo, Olga Tañón.With combined experience of over 40 years in salsa, Tito and Tamara have an impressive track record that attests not only to their exceptional and unique talents but also to their inherent love of salsa in all of its forms.

Michelle Morales began learning salsa at the age of 11 in her home town, Stamford, Connecticut. She then had the opportunity to dance with Jayson Molina from Puerto Rico and his Rompecabezas team. By the age of 18 she continued her training in New York City, and was welcomed to join the world-renowned Yamulee Dance Company Professional Team led by Company Director Osmar Perrones. Michelle quickly rose to the status of one of the principle dancers for Yamulee, and for the next 5 years after, she performed and taught all over the world. Michelle has currently partnered up and performs with the very talented Brandon Ayala, debuting their first piece together “Tamacun”. Michelle is known for her feminine and graceful technique which she has developed over the years, while staying true to her powerful stage presence and body movement.
